This is perfect for the student who is looking to learn about local customs and cultures, and wanting to spend the holidays in true Argentine fashion!

Excursions

Christmas Holiday package: Day trip to a local Estancia (Argentine Ranch)

On December 26th, students will take advantage of the summer sun and head to the gorgeous Argentine countryside and spend a day at a local Estancia located in the Buenos Aires province. Students will spend the day exploring the countryside, feasting on local cuisine and drink, admiring the natural beauty and animals at the ranch, listening to folk music with students and locals, and learning about the gaucho (cowboy) way of life. If there is one way to learn about the culture and traditions of Argentina, this is it!

New Year's Holiday package: Day trip to Tigre

One January 2nd, students will start of the new year in style by taking a guided tour to the picturesque and riverside town of Tigre, where they will go on a boat tour through the Delta, enjoy a local asado (traditional barbeque), shop at the local market, and participate in two activities (canoeing, trekking, fooseball, horseback riding, ping pong, soccer, and more). What better way to start of the New Year then with a summer boat excursion, great local food, shopping, and sports activities, all outside and under the Argentine sun!

Christmas and New Year’s Holiday package:

Includes both excursions.

Extras

All Spanish students are invited to Expanish for a holiday celebration of cider and holiday cake on the afternoon of the 24th and the 31st of December.

Our staff will give students an insight into the local culture and participation in their host family’s holiday celebration, as well as offer advice regarding great places in Buenos Aires to celebrate the holidays (restaurants/bars/events) during these holiday weeks.

All packages include a Mate Tasting Workshop where students will learn about the history of mate, learn from Argentine locals how to prepare mate (bitter and sweet), and drink mate together with fellow students.

What is Mate? Mate is Argentina’s national drink. It is a refreshing herbal tea made from the dried leaves of a Yerba Mate plant and in Argentina an entire social culture exists around the sharing and drinking of it.  Local families or groups of friends love to share mate together, passing around the mate while discussing current events or just relaxing after a long day.

  • Part Two: A Review of Gualeguaychú - el Carnaval del País!

Taking in the other sights of Argentina while you learn Spanish in Buenos Aires is an absolute must! While there is never a lack of activities to take advantage of in Buenos Aires, there is no better way to immerse yourself in Argentine language and culture than seeing what life is like outside of the comforts of the capital city.

If you were to fall asleep on the three hour bus ride to Gualeguaychú, you would probably think you were waking up in another country once you arrived. The majority of this sleepy, riverside town looks antique, with dirt...
