What is Mate?mate.jpg

  • Mate is Argentina's national drink. It is a refreshing herbal tea made from the dried leaves of a Yerba Mate plant, enjoyed in the mornings or afternoons, and a staple beverage in the lives of many Argentines.

Why is Mate so special?

  • Mate tea is a social drink in Argentina. It is not only Argentina's national drink but an entire social culture exists around the sharing and drinking of it. Local families or groups of friends love to share mate together, passing around the mate while discussing current events or just relaxing after a long day.

Is Mate healthy?

  • Mate is good for the health, containing minerals, such as magnesium, calcium and iron, as well as vitamins A, C, E, B-1, and B-2. Mate is caffeinated, however with only one-third of the amount found in coffee, and is claimed that due to the combination of healthy nutrients and amino acids, leaves you more alert and awake than a cup of coffee but without any of the side effects such as jitters or anxiety!
